The Hydrogen Game is now online

Brussels, 21 October 2025

The Green Skills for Hydrogen project is excited to announce that the entire list of materials for The Hydrogen Game is now online. This free, innovative, and open-source educational tool was developed by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU)* as part of the project Green Skills for Hydrogen.

The game is designed to demystify the complex hydrogen and energy value chain, and is built on a simple, groundbreaking method called “icon pedagogy.” This approach uses visual icons instead of dense text to spark dialogue and teach complex systems thinking, making it the perfect resource for anyone training or teaching about #hydrogen.

“This tool turns what can be a complex topic into a fun, collaborative learning experience,” says Pernille Gøtz, Senior Educational Developer at DTU.

Why it Matters:

  • Free and Accessible: All materials (boards, icons, and guides) are free to download in standard file formats.
  • Flexible Use: Works in analog, digital, or online settings, making it ideal for educators and trainers regardless of budget.
  • Focus on Dialogue: The game encourages players to map the energy value chain and debate the role of hydrogen, fostering learning through conversation.

The Hydrogen Game is a critical resource for building the skilled workforce Europe needs.
