The Green Skills for Hydrogen project successfully convened its Steering Committee meeting this week at the University of Galway in Ireland. The two-day session brought together representatives of 11 leading partners to review substantial progress and strategize the final stages of the project.
Day One: Project Review and Research Excellence
The meeting kicked off with a comprehensive review of advancements across all project work packages. Key discussions focused on finalizing the ‘Ready To Use’ Vocational Education and Training (VET) Training Package, designed to rapidly equip the European workforce with essential hydrogen skills. Partners also aligned on communication, dissemination, and the project’s long-term sustainability strategy.
Following the strategic session, the committee visited the University of Galway’s cutting-edge research laboratories. The tour showcased pioneering work in sustainable energy technologies, including:
- Advanced methods for electro- and photocatalytic hydrogen generation.
- Innovative processes for CO2 utilisation.
- Testing of advanced materials critical for the growth of wind and marine energy sectors.
Day Two: Finalizing Deliverables and Future Impact
The second day focused on high-level strategic planning, including ideas for the future development of the GreenSkills Alliance and outreach efforts. The committee dedicated significant time to discussing the forthcoming publication of the White Paper, “Update Reflection on European Hydrogen Skills Strategy”.
A primary goal of the session was to ensure the scalability and lasting impact of the project’s outcomes, guaranteeing that the developed training programmes remain relevant and accessible long after the project’s official conclusion.
Next Steps
The Steering Committee meeting successfully set the final strategic direction, the implementation plan for the ready-to-use training materials, and a clear roadmap for the project. The project is now focused on maximizing its outreach ahead of the European Hydrogen Skills Stakeholder Conference, scheduled for 19 March 2026.
